EDIFACT
A decades‑old messaging standard used by GDSs for airline distribution. EDIFACT encodes schedules, availability and pricing but limits rich content and modern retailing features compared to NDC.
Many GDS processes and downstream tools were built around EDIFACT messages and PNRs. As airlines expose richer content through NDC, agencies increasingly blend EDIFACT‑based GDS content with NDC offers in a unified search, keeping servicing consistent through an internal order model.
