Content aggregator

A platform that connects to multiple suppliers and exposes a unified API and schema across them, often adding mapping, caching and capability abstraction.

Aggregators reduce the number of direct integrations an agency must maintain by normalising suppliers behind one API and order model. They add routing, retries, idempotency and observability so clients focus on product rather than connector maintenance.

Quality varies in how well differences are abstracted. Expect capability flags per supplier, consistent error semantics, caching and deduplication of equivalent offers across sources. For servicing, orders should retain supplier references so downstream tools work.

A strong aggregator also manages performance: collapses duplicate looks, fans out selectively based on market and policy, shapes concurrency and timeouts per supplier, and falls back gracefully when one source is degraded so agents still see a result set.

Commercially, an aggregator may offer a uniform contract or pass through supplier terms. Your platform should still record fees, commissions and net/markup logic per source for accurate invoices and statements.

In the Elkanio platform, Synapse is the unified API and aggregator. It exposes one schema across GDS, NDC, LCC and private contracts, with capability flags and webhooks for order lifecycle events.

Common mistakes

What teams often get wrong

  • Does an aggregator hide all supplier quirks?

No. Important domain details are preserved behind a consistent schema. Capability flags and typed fields expose differences without leaking raw supplier models into your app.

  • If we use an aggregator we can skip mapping tests.

Mappings evolve as suppliers change. Treat them as code with validation, drift detection and safe rollouts even when an aggregator sits in front.
